CAF Champions League :
Emmanuel Okwi played a starring role as Tanzania’s Simba SC made easy work of Mbabane Swallows with a 4-1 thumping in the CAF Champions league preliminary first round game at National Stadium, Dar es Salaam on Wednesday.
The Uganda Cranes international played solid sixty minutes as a brace from John Bocco and a goal each from Clautus Chama and Meddie Kagere helped the Tanzanian money bags take a huge leap forward a head of the return leg in Swaziland.
Skipper John Bosco broke the deadlock inside just eight minutes following a run of play but Swallows drew level in the 23 minute through Nzambe.
Okwi, the October player of the month in the Tanzanian league, was brought down in penalty area and John Bosco stepped up and duly converted the resultant penalty to restore the hosts’ lead in the 33rd minute. Ugandan-turned-Rwandanesse Meddie Kagere scored the third on six minutes to time while Zambian Chama’s late fine strike in the 90 minute turned the encounter into a rout.
The two sides face off in seven days to determine the aggregate winners that progresses to the pre-group stages. Should Simba finish off the match in the return leg they are likely to face Nkana who beat UD Songo 2-1 away in Mozambique.
